The Perfect Duo from COSRX for Summer and Winter Skin!*

More COSRX? Well if you're in love, nothing stops you from sharing the love and this is how I feel with COSRX. They produce such effective and amazing Korean skincare products that I cannot get enough of. Some of their newer releases have completely amazed me and I'm here bringing you a review of the perfect hydrating duo from COSRX - the Hydrogel Very Simple Pack and the Cooling Aqua Facial Mist. By extreme sheer luck, I found this amazing combination THAT WORKS!

I have had the two for quite some time and have been greatly enjoying the skincare benefits that it provides. On their own, they get the job done well. But together, they are a power-couple not to be messed with. I used this at the midst of the bone-aching Winter here in Australia and also brought these while travelling around Japan during Summer, where the humidity was extremely uncomfortable. To my absolute surprise, the Hydrogel Very Simple Pack and the Cooling Aqua Facial Mist worked in both conditions.

Before I get into how these products helped my skin, I'm going to lay out what they individually offer.

COSRX Hydrogel Very Simple Pack

The Hydrogel Very Simple Pack are transparent hydrating circular patches that help to cool down heated skin. They are packed with essences allowing you to retain the moisturise in your skin, while also replenishing the moisture from heat, especially after exercise, sun exposure or over-exfoliating.

These patches are uniquely designed to also not slip off your face. Once you position it and let it settle on the skin, it honestly doesn't move. So you can absolutely multi-task and get on with your while the patches are sitting on your face.

Most would assume these patches are a "Summer" product. But I was able to extend its use into Winter as well. These patches were able to restore the life of my skin when it was dry and flaky from the cold Winter. It was one of the quickest ways to give a temporary fix to my desert skin. And while in Summer, it helped a lot to cool my skin while also replenishing the hydrating levels from the sun exposure.

This product was in collaboration with HANBYUL who is a well-known beauty blogger niched into the Korean Beauty world. She has a vibrant approach to beauty and combines the power of makeup and skincare to bring forth your best skin. I absolutely love her and this is such a suitable collaboration.

There are a total of 60 patches in each container. Assuming you are using 2 patches per day, this whole jar would last you a whole month! I generally use two patches every other day or right before i apply makeup (as a constituent to my moisturiser). It's a really great product to keep your skin feeling hydrated and also give it a little moisture boost.

It contains a combination ingredients, including Hyaluronic Acid, Centella Asiatica Extract and Ceramides to either;

  • retain moisture
  • creating a moisture barrier
  • accelerate skin cell regeneration
  • soothe, cool and calm the skin
  • improve the skin's elasticity
Onto the next product...

COSRX Cooling Aqua Facial Mist

The Cooling Aqua Facial Mist is a staple in my skincare routine, especially in Winter and Summer! I honestly should have done a review on this little guy earlier but life got the best of me. What's great about this mist is that it does what every other mist does but way more! It hydrates the skin, it restores the skin's moisturise levels, it cools the skin down and can easily be used as a toner. On top of this, it has healing capabilities that help to heal blemishes, reduce redness (especially after exfoliation or sun exposure) and also with continual use, it gives you plump and youthful skin. Honestly, when it comes to skincare, it's hard to be consistent with your skincare routine. But this mist makes it so easy! Pop it in your bag and spray whenever and wherever you want.

What I love most about this mist (besides its formula) is how fine the mist is! The Western World of Beauty haven't really reached this level yet but most Korean Beauty brands are now creating facial mists that are finer and softer on the skin. Companies are now realising that makeup and skincare go hand in hand and are now producing facial mists that also refresh your makeup while hydrating the skin. I mean, it is about time!

This mist was an absolute life saviour in the Summer humid climates of Japan. It really prevented my skin from drying out and it was super easy to pack into your carry on bag, since it's less than 100mL.

Now what makes this product work is the combination of a few ingredients;
  • Centella Asiatica Leaf Water - this is a common ingredient in both the Hydrogel Patches and the Cooling Aqua Mist. It is responsible for giving the skin hydration and accelerates the skin cell turnover. You'll also see this ingredient in most acne products as it has healing properties to heal and sooth acne.
  • Aloe Vera Water - unlike water, Aloe Vera Water does not evaporate very quickly and hydrates the skin for a longer duration. Water takes more than it gives and this is a great addition. Aloe Vera also has cooling and healing abilities which is helpful to soothe irritation, redness and inflammation.
  • Xylitol - this natural ingredient is commonly used for dental purposes to either prevent tooth decay or reduce bacteria in your gums. But it also increases the production levels of collagen which helps your skin look more youthful and radiant. Though, you shouldn't expect immediate changes. It has very small concentrations in the mist.
Now let's talk about why these two products work together no matter what season you are in!

Why they work well together!

Though both these products predominantly "do the same thing" (which is to hydrate the skin), they do this in two very different ways and I use them differently as well. The reason these two products work so well together is because one provides hydration and the other locks it in.

Whenever my skin is feeling thirsty, overly dry, needs that little boost of hydration or just feels a little heated, I instantly bring out the duo to fix the problem! Keep in mind, this is just a short term solution, but over time, it'll become a habit you don't want to get rid of.

When your skin is feeling like its lacking of moisture, you obviously have to replenish its nutrients and restore to normal and this is where the Hydrogel patches come in. Instead of dousing a cotton pad with a toner and leaving it on your skin, (which at times can be extremely wasteful and less effective) these patches do the same thing but preserve more of the moisture in your skin. You leave it on the same amount time (about 15-30 minutes depending on your skin) and it works just as well if not better!  Because they are clear patches, you can honestly wear it anywhere. I wore it on the plane while travelling to and from Japan and no one noticed. COSRX honestly think about the little things as well.

Right after this step, I would then apply my usual skincare routine steps. Now, the COSRX Aqua Cooling Mist is the supportive friend I bring around everywhere to me to give my skin a quick fix of hydration. This is especially the case when my skin starts to wear off its moisture and is getting thirsty. Just spraying this on the skin might be the same as just spritzing some water on your skin, but this can do more harm than good. Water, though does hydrate the skin, it takes more than it gives and ends up sucking up more moisture in your skin and your skin compensates for it and tries to find moisture to replace the evaporated water. This leads to your skin feeling drier than it originally was. Using facial mists like the COSRX Aqua Cooling Mist doesn't do that. It is packed with ingredients that prevent this and retains the hydration levels in your skin. Because it can contain the moisture for longer, you can be rest assured that your skin is in good hands.

By doing spritzing my skin with the COSRX Aqua Cooling Mist, I don't have to worry about the loss of moisture over time. By repeating this routine every day, my skin honestly doesn't need as many steps in my usual skincare routine. I double cleanse, I apply my chemical exfoliant and I add in a moisturiser or a serum depending on the condition of my skin during that time.

Give these two a try and see for yourself on what I mean! Summer or Winter, this combination will surely help you retain, replenish and rehydrate the skin. You can find these two products on Let's Face It's Website;

  2. Great article. What I like about Koreans, is their dedication to skin care. It clearly shows on their skin. Almost every one of them has a fine and radiant skin. Though, I'm not an expert or anything. Also, I would love to visit Japan sometimes. Do you have a blog about your Japan visit?
