Review: COSRX Blemish Cover Cushion*

Need something that's light, has full coverage and gives your skin a flawless complexion? Well, here it is! Coming back to my makeup roots and finally give you guys another cushion review that I know you will love as well. The COSRX Blemish Cover Cushion Foundation is an absolute show-stopper. This cushion foundation is not very hyped on the market and if it wasn't for my current obsession with Korean Beauty, I would not have given this a second look. This is a cushion foundation you don't want to miss, so find out why this cushion could be for you!

This foundation is the only matte foundation that I 100% love. I almost hate every single matte foundation that exist on the shelf. And there is a rare 5% that do not disappoint me and have even surprised me, and this included the COSRX Blemish Cover Cushion Foundation. This is an affordable dupe for the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation containing the same coverage but has better skincare benefits to it! It costs half as much and has double as much skincare features that helps your skin! Just hearing this alone sounds too good to be true.

As you guys know, I have transitioned into using Korean skincare into my routine and it has truly made the biggest difference to my skin. And having reliable and trustworthy brands like COSRX makes life so much easier to commit to my skincare and now makeup too. They have recently reformulated their cushion foundation to add bonus goodies into this neat little compact. And this is done for the pure purpose of having something in their huge bank of products that is aligned with their core values which (in my opinion) is very commendable.

Packaging

To be utterly honest, the packaging is very basic and boring. Compared to a lot of other Korean brands, the exterior of the compact falls very short and is easily overlooked. It has no colour, no excitement and nothing going for it that will attract me to it. But because it more neutral in colour, it is quite gender inclusive and even males that need help covering up a blemish do not have to feel embarrassed carrying around the compact. But despite its looks, don't judge its cover.
Each compact has a round square case which comes with a cushion puff, one foundation container and a mirror. I'm not a huge fan of the mirror as it doesn't have the highest clarity compared to other brands, such as Lancôme, Laneige and so on. But it's a neat feature to have for on the go.
The cushion puff is the perfect size of about three fingers in length and is extremely soft in texture. Now the strap in that is located at the back is quite restrictive. I like to have three fingers to be tucked between the strap for the best application. Having only to fit two fingers, it feels like there isn't enough pressure for me to properly blend the product onto my skin. But to be frank, I don't use the puff often at all. I always use an alternative brush to do the job. The cushion puff is to just help me touch up on the go only.
I have used the cushion puff a couple of times and it does the job well! It doesn't take away the coverage that the foundation holds and it blends the product onto the skin very well. It has flexible enough to get between awkward edges of the face and it is gentle enough to not irritated the skin as well. I'm just not a cushion puff kind of girl.

Formula

Despite the disappointing appeal of the packaging, the formula is what pulls the strings to my heart!
The COSRX Blemish Cover Cushion Foundation is very lightweight, but not as lightweight as my Giorgio Armani Cushion Foundation.
It is not as emollient but due to the finish of the foundation, it is to be expected. Matte foundations tend to be drier and thicker in consistency compared to dewy and hydrating cushion foundations.

The COSRX cushion foundation contains SPF 47+++ to provide protection against the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. This is an important and most common feature in most Korean Beauty cushion foundations and I expected no less from COSRX. It ccintains 2% of Niacinamide to brighten the skin and strength the skin's natural barriers against pollutants and environmental factors. It also is formulated with Centella Asiatica Extract to help calm and soothe you skin while having inflammations and blemishes. These ingredients combined also helps your skin to heal from the stresses of acne or blemishes and also help boost collagen production so you can have younger looking skin from the inside out! This foundation is best suited for those with oily-combination to acne-prone skin types. If you have dry skin, you can also wear this foundation too but you definitely need to lay a hydrating base and a moisturiser for this to work for you.

As mentioned, the formula of COSRX cushion is very similar that of the Lancome Teint Idole Cushion. It has the same texture and consistency. Having that medium to full coverage and straight up pigment is almost identical to each other. The only major difference between the two formulas is that the Lancome Teint Idole sways a little orange/pink compares to the shades in the COSRX range. But considering how Lancôme is more globally well-known and is more skin colour inclusive than COSRX, Lancôme obviously has to build shades around the demand.

As you can see from the photo, it does even out the skin tone and also cover the redness from my skin. And this was just one layer of the foundation. With the buildable coverage that the cushion foundation provides, you are able to hide blemishes and dark spots on the skin. With my more prominent dark spots, beauty spots and freckles, it did peek through.

With all the skincare benefits lying behind the product, I truly believe that my skin is being looked after and I don't have to worry about the foundation draining the life from my skin. I absolutely love when skincare and makeup meet to a common ground and I am able to stress a little less about what's happening with my skin.

Application

As mentioned earlier, I don't generally use puffs. They tend to collect impurities and bacteria and it's very difficult to clean without damaging the puff. So, I tend to opt for a brush that can do the same job without the hassle.
And these are the brushes that I recommend using with this foundation, in particular.
Left to Right: Zoeva Flat Kabuki, Sigma Beauty F80, It Cosmetics Duo Ended Brush #6
The Zoeva Flat Kabuki Brush and the Sigma F80 are the perfect brushes to give you the medium full coverage while also seamlessly allowing you to blend out the foundation without any streaks or lines. However on most days, I don't wear a full face of makeup and I like my foundation to be light. So I use the It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection Brush #6 that can diffuse the product and give me a lighter and more natural matte finish on the skin.

I just love how versatile the product is when you use a different brush. You can go for a soft matte finish with a fluffy brush or a natural matte finish with a more condensed brush or cushion puff. Obviously, you do not have to use the exact brushes as me to get the same effect.
The COSRX Blemish Cover Cushion Foundation has truly changed the way I see matte cushion foundations. It's a lightweight, comfortable, affordable, medium to full coverage foundation that I can rely on to do the job right and also give my skin the protection it needs for continual use.

I have always loved cushion foundations and this is now added to one of my favourite cushions in my collection! I would love to know what your favourite cushions are so I know what to try next. I have a few that I recently bought from Huxley, AprilSkin, Shiseido... that I am so keen to review. Stay tuned for those reviews to come!
