Best Korean Skincare for Combination Skin*

There has never been a time in my life where I had felt my skin was at its 100% best. It was always "better than normal" but I honestly still loathed a lot about my skin. The indestructible blackheads, the persistent breakouts, the bumpy textured skin, the desert-sand chapped lips and skin... there was just a never-ending list of imperfections that returned with the seasons. I had tried a tremendous amount of "western" skincare and there were a lot of hits and misses. Because my skin is thin and delicate, it couldn't handle a lot of highly concentrated products. Even though there are brands, like Philosophy, The Ordinary, Avene, La Roche Posay, Kiehls, Jurlique, Lancome that did justice for my skin, there was still a few issues that I had such as the expensive prices, unavailability or they were just not right for my skin (short term and long term). So, it was time to venture into Korean skincare.

'Let's Face It' is one of the fresh NEW Australian online stores that retails cult favourite Korean Skincare. I don't know about you but purchasing Korean Skincare was a complete hassle for me. The only place that I knew I could purchase Korean Products was from 'Yesstyle' or ' Korean Style'. These online retailers took weeks or even months to receive a product and my skin just cannot wait that long, especially with my indecisive combination skin. Some days, it is oily everywhere. Some days, it's super dry. And other days, it's just both.

This company 'Let's Face It' is run by two amazing people (Jie and Anthony) who completely know their stuff. I had the complete pleasure of meeting them in person and now, we are bringing you guys this amazing collaboration. For the past few months, they had generously gifted me some products to try so I can give my biscuits the best review possible. They have been so kind and sweet as to helping me on my journey to become a strong advocate for Korean Skincare.

Each product I am showing you, I have tried and tested and giving you guys my two cents on what I think about the products. Now without further ado, here are some products I would highly recommend for combination to normal skin.

When it comes to cleansers, the Koreans do such an amazing job in creating products that work phenomenally. Unlike the ones you see at Priceline, Mecca Maxima, Chemist Warehouse and so on, they have cleansers that take way too longer to do what they claim to say. These three chosen cleansers are incredibly effective and each play a different role for my skin.

COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

This is one hell of a cleanser! I originally knew nothing about looking into the pH levels of cleansers until Jie had explained to me the importance of it. pH is the measure of the acidity and alkalinity of a solution. In terms of skincare, the pH helps to balance these levels so your skin is at its healthiest.

Have you ever felt that a cleanser didn't really do its job or it kind of irritated your skin? Well, this could be the reason why. When a cleanser contains either a pH level that is either too acidic or too alkaline, it could really damage your skin giving you severe dryness, breakouts, irritation and so on.

The COSRC Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser is the perfect cleanser that has a stabilising pH level that will help you gain and maintain soft, clean and hydrated skin. It claims to be perfect for all skin types, but I absolutely adore it for my combination skin. Because I have an oily T-zone and a drier exterior, having a cleanser that helps balance both at the same time is a complete godsend!

Why does this work so well? This product contains the hero ingredient:
  • Tea Tree Oil
is typically found in Korean Skincare Products which helps to absorb, remove and balance your skin, while working its magic to hydrate, nourish and bring back the right pH level.

It is a clear gel that lathers onto wet skin. It has a runnier consistency than most gel cleansers and is quite comparable to the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cleansers. You would squeeze about one-two pea sizes amounts on your hand and start to work it into the skin in circular motions (as you would with any other cleanser). Once you are done, you would rinse it off with luke-warm water.

Even though it does say it is a "morning" cleanser, you can also use it in the evenings as well, following an oil cleansers for double cleansing.

COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser

Here's another cleanser that I also wanted to talk about. The COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser is a very unique formulated product. Ideally it is for anyone that has oily or acne prone skin and I have a T-zone that needed some TLC. It is a cleanser that contains an exfoliating agent which helps to keep your oils at bay, as well as penetrating through the skin to remove all your whiteheads, impurities, blackheads and other nasties. It is truly a powerful cleanser especially if you find that you are breaking out a lot and need something to treat your skin.

Unfortunately, Let's Face It does not stock this product as of the moment BUT they will be stocking it in the next couple of weeks! So definitely stay tuned!

Now, this is a gel-like cleanser that's creamy in consistency and milky in colour. Similarly with the Low pH Morning Cleanser, you would lather it onto wet skin on areas that you need you need the help with oily, acne or breakouts parts of your skin. Once you are done, you would then rinse it off. After rinsing, you would feel there is a film or a tightness around the areas you had used the product. Some might dislike this sensation and there is an easy fix! You can use a toner and swipe it away. It will not affect the results of the product, whatsoever!

Dear Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

This is a Korean skincare brand that I initially had no knowledge of. "Let's face it" had heroically introduced this brand to me being that one of the products is the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. Initially before trying the product, I was hoping it would be a cheaper alternative to replace my Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils, as they are quite expensive to buy in one go and money does not grow on trees. And I'm happy to report, the Cleansing Oil from Klairs is a beautiful and great alternative!

In comparison to the Shu Uemura cleansing oil, it is not as runny and slightly not as refined. But it unlike Shu Uemura's cleansing oil, two pumps was enough to do the job for my entire face. Whereas, the Klairs Cleansing takes much less than that to do the job. I extremely like its effectiveness and how it works on my skin. It softens, moisturises, nourishes and cleanses my skin all in one go! After a week of using it, I did notice my skin becoming more radiant and more youthful which the Shu Uemura didn't do as well in a short period of time.

You would use this by dispensing out 1-2 pumps onto your hand and work it onto dry skin. It will remove your impurities, makeup (light AND heavy duty), blackheads and so on. After you have finished, you would then rinse off the excess off your hands and whatever water remains on your skin, you would again massage it onto your skin to emulsify the product. By doing this, your skin becomes softer and hydrated. Once you have done this for a few minutes or so, you would rinse off everything with water.

What I truly love about this product was that it had effectively improved the texture of my skin within weeks of using it everyday! It was so easy to just cleanse, nourish and remove excess oils all in one product!

Now the hero products in this product is;

  • Black Bean Oil
which help to control sebum production and improve skin elasticity
  • Black Sesame Oil
which is rich in antioxidants and prevents signs of ageing and,
  • Black Currant Oil
which is rich in vitamins and minerals that strengthens and keep your moisturise levels

There are so many great things going for this product. If I had to name one Korean skincare product that I am proud to have discovered, it would be this one for sure!

Toners was a very tricky product for me to get right. It took a long process to find a toner that removed residual impurities that your cleansers didn't capture, retaining the suppleness and hydration levels of my skin and does not level that icky or tacky sensation once it dried down (as most western toners do).

I didn't know what a huge difference toners could do for my skin. Over time, it had brighten my skin bring back its radiance, clearing out my pores revealing cleaner and smooth skin and also reducing the breakouts I have.

And here I am to say, 'Let's Face It' has the goods for toners!

Son & Park Beauty Water

The Son & Park Beauty Water is the latest addition to my skincare family. It's a multi-tasking product that only tones the skin but also cleanses as well. I use this product to be my third step in removing all the nasties from my skin. It's super effective and captures every last impurity without stripping our skin of its moisture, even though it does contain alcohol.

It does also claim to exfoliate the skin, which is super great for us in the combination skin club. It works to remove the dead skin cells, as well as keep your oils at bay. I cannot praise this product enough!

It contains the following hero products to help with your skin:
  • Willow Bark
a natural salicylic acid that help to unclog pores and regenerate skin cell turnover
  • Papaya Extract
to exfoliate dead skin cells and brighten the skin, while also promoting collagen production for suppleness
  • Extracts from Lavender, Roses and Oranges
for hydration and moisture into the skin
  • Oil Extracts from Lavender, Olive, Grapefruit and Jasmine
to provide a natural fragrance while also skincare benefits for youthfulness

COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner

This was a highly sought our product in Asian countries due to its effectiveness and its high quality formula. Many people had adored this product for not only the way it tones, removes impurities and brightens the skin, but also as a product that acts as a preventative measure for breakouts, whiteheads and blackheads.

It is formulated with 10% Apple Fruit Water (AHA), 10% Willow Bark Water (BHA) and a mineral base that are the hero products making it so effective. I love how there is a pump that helps to dispense the product, but also unnecessary. The COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment toner works to eliminate flakes and dull dead skin and also to fight the natural acids that cause you to break out or have acne. This is another product that I love. Similarly like the other toners that I have and will mention, it does not leave that tacky residue.

Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner

Though the packaging is quite uninviting, do not be fooled. This product packs a punch! And by punch, I mean great benefits for your skin. It has a unique consistency that almost looks and feels like a cleansing oil but once used on the skin, it does feel different.

The Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner is another product that aims to restore the right pH levels of your skin and also rehydrating the skin. What's different about this product is not its effectiveness to do what a toner should do but it is a product that helps you to prepare for your skincare routine. There are some toners that act like a film over the skin and prevents your skincare from giving you its full potential.

Like the other toners, it is just perfect for combination skin. It has properties that work so well to target the different areas of your face so that your skin can be balanced and become... well normal!
This award-winning product was introduced to me by Jie and she was right at every turn. This product had truly captured my heart and it is my favourite toner to date. I do alternate between the these three toners but this is my favourite, especially for colder months as it contains no alcohol!

This toner contains two key ingredients that bring you this elixir of amazement:
  • Wheat Amind Acids
    an ingredient that promotes hydration
  • Centella Asiatica Extract
a plant ingredient that regenerates skin cells and soothes the skin from irritation, acne and redness

Lip Mask

If you guys follow me on instagram (@biscuitsnmakeup), you would know how deep and strong my obsession is over these lip masks. There is absolutely nothing in this world that is like it. I have always had trouble keeping my lips nourished and hydrated. It's constantly desert-sand where my lips should be. But after discovering this product, it has truly been another godsend!

There are a total of four delicious flavours: berry, grapefruit, apple lime and vanilla. These have truly taken over asian countries and now have graced our borders, as "Let's Face It" stocks them! It is a product that won't ever stay on the shelf and is constantly sold out. And for good reason!

Now, each flavour isn't just for the pleasure of the nose but it has also lipcare benefits as well. Each delivering a different treatment, as well as offering long-lasting hydration and suppleness to your lips. The Laneige Special Care Lip Sleeping Masks have a patented moisture technology that help your lips to restore and balance its moisture levels as well as provide a smooth and even surface for lipstick application. I always pop this on right before I go to bed and by morning, my lips are as good as new!

These lip masks promote anti-ageing properties that are very unique to the market. It is something that we do not think of and Laneige has done us so much justice in creating a product that works as a preventative as well as a corrective treatment for your lips. It is truly an amazing product that you must grab your hands on!

Last but not least!
This product that I'm about to talk to you ticks everything on my checklist before entering this Korean Skincare adventure!

Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel

For something that is under $10, it is an extremely brilliant product that soothe and hydrate the skin. It contains 92% Aloe Vera that work all over your body and your face! It's a miracle worker that does not discriminate any part of your skin. It works its charm with the power of Aloe Vera, which is proven to have great soothing properties, especially for those with irritation, redness, severe dryness and inflammation (especially form breakouts or sunburns).

I am incredibly in love with this product! It contains 300mL of product that will last you quite a fair bit. It is quick absorbing and works bested on cleansed skin. Like most products I have mentioned, it is both a preventative and a treatment which is just the ideal product you can use for everyday!

There is just no words to truly express my love for this product. I can honestly bathe myself in this and feel like I'm twelve again.
